Sms/text Messaging From Android Phone To Iphone?

My phone info is in my signature below

I have a friend who has Iphone, w/something called IMessage. She is in Houston, and can still send text but she has to call me because I don't have Iphone. Things are so happening down there as many of you know, that she just can't call me every time she wants to. So I am trying to find a way (an app) that I can text her from my Android straight into her IMessage??

Does anyone know of an app that I can get from my Playstore so I can text her? She may have to do something on her phone as well. I looked at some info by way of Google but the info was from back a couple years so I hesitate to try anything that isn't more up-to-date.

I'm wondering, 2 gals in the office w/iphones and they text to androids "they say" but each sent me a text and I'm not getting it. I'll take a look at that app Eldon. I came across that a couple days ago but can't remember what I was looking for. Thank you much, denise

 

So Eldon?? Does that mean an Iphone can send a message to an android that has this app, whatsapp, on it? I'm assuming that's true. I'm also trying to ask if it is Android that needs to be equipped to "get" messages from Iphones, or does Iphone have to be specially equipped to text to Android as well? I did see there's a download for Whatsapp for Android, and IOS, so I know she has to download the app as well to communicate with me.

I thought for sure my niece had texted me on my phone from her Iphone. It's confusing for me, sorry bout that Eldon And thanks again for you help denise

 

My one sister sends me (I have an Android phone) regular text messages from her iPhone but she can't use iMessage to do that. iMessage is only for Apple devices. Just like BBM is for BlackBerry phones.

WhatsApp is cross-platform - iPhone, Android, Windows, etc. can all use the app. It's very user-friendly and uses very little data for messaging.
Sending video & sound clips will use more data.

I have it installed and ready to go. I'll check to make sure it has my contacts on there. I'm wondering if my buddy Ina in Texas may be using her IPad for texting?? I thought Iphone was an Apple device all this time Ok, well, I think the best thing is to get her to try sending me a text from her Iphone. And if for some reason, she is only using her Ipad (which is an apple device I think??) she can download Whatsapp as well.

I do wonder why that gals with their iphones can't text me though? They didn't seem to know what their text app was so it's probably a default.

 

And you are probably correct.

 

My daughter and I exchange SMS messages without any issue. They're using iMessage . If they want to send you an SMS/MMS text, they need to use the Messages app.

Ok Just, I did read something about that, but I was hesitant to have Ina have to install anything at this time. She's in that flood mess, and as yet, it is looking less likely she will have to evacuate. Later though, we can use your info and thank you so much! Denise

 

You don't install it. It's part of iOS.

 

You should be able to send regular text from any phone to any other phone or device with the ability to text no matter if it is Android or Iphone. I have Android phone and have family members and friends with Iphones and we text each other easily. If I am on my computer I use App Messenger but on my phone I don't need to.
