sndvol.exe

My sndvol.exe file seems to have disappeared after my last windows update for some reason. Needless to say, without it I have no sound exiting my computer. I am using Windows 7, and did not get a CD with my computer. Anyone know where I can find a copy?

PS. I tried "restore", but as usual, it was a waste of time.

Did this, but no question marks. It says everything is working, but no sound...

 

Thanks. Ran sfc, and it DID restore sndvol.exe to my system32 folder. Problem is, I still don't have any sound exiting my computer...any ideas where to go from here? As far as clues, all I can say is that everything was working until I updated Windows today.

Have you tried uninstalling the Windows Updates that were installed previous to the problem or rolling back to an earlier Restore Point? You might try that and then re-running the System File Checker.

Also, please post the make and complete model # of your machine (please include any Service Tags) and the Windows Service Pack level.

 

Didn't realize you could uninstall windows updates without using Restore (which wouldn't work). I will try that, thanks.

 

Uninstalling the windows updates, and uninstalling/reinstalling drivers didn't help, but I DID finally find a fix. The website that I found it on is below, for anyone that also has a confounding audio problem. Scroll down to the second post by "jenae". It's a very simple fix, solved with just a couple command lines.
