    Okay, well, here we go!:

For some reason, when I disconnect my Cable Modem, and replug in my Cable Modem (the same exact way with all connections tact), it breaks the connection totally and I have to repair it. It dosen't usually repair instantly, and I have to wait a while before it kicks back up. I have a Linksys Cable Modem BEFCMU10 Ver. 3.

I am trying to hook everything up to a NetGear Wireless Home Router, but this problem is preventing me from doing it. Is it a modem related problem or does it come from trying to set it up with the router and can I fix it? If anybody can answer this question soon, I would be greatly delighted.

Happy Holidays by the way! :)

Usually a driver problem. Have you updated your NIC drivers?

Generally when someone has to repair their connection, its because DHCP is not providing a valid IP address.

Tried this: How to Fix Cable/DSL Internet authentication (password).

    Here is the main problem:

Wait 2 minutes and Switch On the modem wait another two minutes (The Lights on the Modem should show that there is a live solid connection).

How do I update my NIC Drivers? I'm scared to shut down my computer, the modem will go again, that's what happened last time and this is actually the first time I have been connected since my last post.

Can you please explain some terms?

    1. When you say you unplug the modem, what do you unplug - the power cord, the cable from the wall, the cables to the computers...?
    2. When you say it takes a long time to come back up, does it come up within a couple of minutes on its own?
    3. When you say "repair it," what does that mean? How do you repair the modem?

How about maybe this scenario? When you unplug the power to a broadband modem, it loses its authenication with the ISP. When you plug it back in, it has to renew all of that and log in. That can in fact take a couple of minutes depending partly on your ISP's setup with authentication servers. So if it does come back up in a couple of minutes by itself, that's pretty normal if maybe on the long side.

Next, you would have to repair the IP etc in the router, because it got its external IP address from the ISP through the modem, the same way your computer would if you bypassed the router. The router is just another computer to your ISP and the whole internet. So you have to have all of those lights up on the modem and only then reboot the router.

Next, the router assigns IPs, dns, default gateway (which is itself of course) and subnet mask to every node connected to it whether wired or wireless. Therefore, they all may need to be renewed after the router is back up fully with all lights.

So, if all of that works when done in that order, you're fine. If not, given answers to the questions above, we can probably figure it out.
