People who know me and the discussions we've had on here in the past would think of me as a liberal or left, I always thought Trump was an idiot since the Obama birth rubbish. But I've been doing a lot of reading during the election and came to the realization that both political parties, especially Hillary Clinton were so corrupt its not funny and I 100% thought if she and the democrats had won their foreign policy of towards Russia and providing weapons to terrorists in Syria would end the world.

So if I was American I would have voted for him. if he turns out to be a bad president I will say I would have voted for him.

Dunno if this breaks the rules haven't been in a while, not here to argue just thought people would find it surprising coming from me.

Yes Fredg I would have voted for a republican:(

Well, I tend to give everyone a fair chance, and this guy has not impressed yet. I expect my government to lie to me. But not this much. This guy takes the cake.

    And, just a friendly reminder...

    DON'T GET THE THREAD CLOSED>>>

One of the main reasons I wanted trump to win was its good entertainment. You have to admit.

Its like farting in a room then going outside and watching through the window.

Number 45 is a bit like a 'reality' show on TV.

Love what he does one day, then he sticks not only his foot in his mouth, but half his leg, then denies he has his foot in his mouth.

Will leave it there to keep the thread open. But, it is interesting having a non-politician as President.

lol...this will most likely not stay open even a day, Rikky.

Its definitely not a topic that Americans can discuss with any civility...even with friends and family.

I had to say it, I wanted to log in on election night. I stayed up until 5.00 in the morning UK time to watch the live results.

I feel I always stick to the fringe of politics and never invest anything, well now I have. If I were American I would have gone to the polling booth and voted for Trump.

In four years, if this thread is still here,if I'm still here, if the world is still here we can look back and laugh at how stupid I was.

EDIT; Mekanic PM me your opinion on the lies, I'm very curious, I dont follow it as closely as you.

I personally would not have voted for Trump if I was a US voter. I would have found it even more difficult to vote for unbelievably criminal and corrupt Clinton. I always preferred Bernie Sanders and, if he had been the Democratic Party candidate there isn't a shadow of a doubt he w0uld have beneath Trump.
But the attacks on Trump from the 'I was a useless President' Obama camp and his lick-spittle among Democrats in Congress has been nauseating.
He has a right to feel unfairly attacked by the awfulness of the mainstream media in the USA which is basically a bunch of self-serving overpaid hypocrites.
I don't agree with many of his policies and the US judiciary was right to reign in his nonsense around bans on certain immigrants.
But the election happened for him because of the unspeakable corruption of both the Democrat and Republican party establishments.

Just out of curiosity, if you were a US voter, who, of the 3 (Sanders, Clinton, and Trump) would you have voted for?

Great civil topic and replies as we all know politics and religion do not sit well with tech forums or this one, but have to say I loved all the replies so far, what would I do or vote for, well the candidates were a crapshoot TBH and in some way Trump has stirred up the stagnant political sphere a little, is it for the good who knows may be! If I was given a vote the if running then Biden would have it.

If I was a US voter I would have voted for Sanders, but, he was illegally denied his right to be the democratic nominee. With Sanders gone I would have grudgingly voted for Clinton. The stench of perceived corruption destroyed Clinton.

    I wrote in Sanders.
Consider another thought; have you ever lied to your kids to show them they need to check the truth on their own? Trump brings reality to the front, he knows better than to quote Fox News. We have a reality TV star as president, learn from him. Encourage him to do what's right. Maybe some good will come of it.

I will give old Bernie credit, he was honest about being a socialist.

Rationally, socialism is an historical inevitability. Communism is too extreme.

Capitalism unfettered and unregulated produces fuedalism or oligarchy. Capitalism never created a middle class. That was always an accident in history.

Do you mind posting some links to how you define those things? I know it is not going far in the discussion here, but curious about it. I always thought socialism and communism to be the same thing.

A prime example of democratic socialism is the Nordic countries. Even the former Soviet Union wasn't full blown communist. North Korea isn't even full blown communist per Marxist theory. Communism is the people's shirt, car, and governmental control of all industry. Tito's Yugoslavia was a free market socialist state which reached out to third world nations. Let's just say Stalin was not Tito's biggest fan.

You have examples of socialism in your own life on multiple levels every day. Police, fire departments, ambulance corps, even roads and highways.

3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

We're in the middle right now, teetering to the capitalist side which tends to lead to rent seeking and feudalism. According to Marx, inbetween is a more beneficial place to be. Right now, the United States has the most wealth disparity (income inequality) in it's history. It rivals the "Gilded Age".

Too much of any "good" thing...

    P.S.

Never been into politics...our own much less looking overseas.

Trump certainly has changed that. He covers such a range of fascinating legal areas that raise debates including different aspects of your legislation and Constitution that we can't help tuning in on what's happening over there. o_O

    Interesting stuff!

Honestly, I've read enough on Trump to know he's no better. From NY mob ties to failed casinos/grossly and negligently violating gaming laws, to the pathological lying about EVERYTHING including his ties to Russia. He's a con man who built a fortune on debt that was never fully paid back, and shorting or screwing those who worked for or supplied his failed ventures.

Our Republic has been turned into an oligarchy:

Do you have links/facts to your statements?

I can give you a list of some of Hillary's lies if you have forgotten.

    "
In a foreign policy speech last week at George Washington University, Clinton used the description of a dangerous arrival to bolster her argument that she has the foreign policy experience needed to be commander in chief.

She said when she arrived in Bosnia on March 25, 1996, "I remember landing under sniper fire. There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base."

But news video footage of her arrival at Tuzla shows Clinton, then the first lady, calmly walking from the rear ramp of a U.S. Air Force plane with her daughter, Chelsea, then 16, at her side. Both Clintons held their heads up and did not appear rushed.

The video shows Clinton spending several minutes talking with the group, including an 8-year-old Bosnian girl who presented her with a poem, and later greeting U.S. troops."

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/03/25/campaign.wrap/index.html

Don't forget the lies about the 'video' and Bengazi...

I can go on about the hildebeast's lies, do you have facts to back up your accusations?

Not saying the Rump is perfect, he does have many flaws.

The big issue we have is that so much of our country lives in poverty or near poverty. It's difficult to drive GDP and have a functioning growing economy without people who can buy disposable goods or for that matter own real estate.

I don't believe it's a full half I think that the calculations are a little generous. However I doubt that a full third of the country is too lazy and doesn't want to work. Middle-class wages have fallen significantly since the late seventies. The inequality is a serious damper on growing the economy.

Trump should have been charged for violating the Cuban embargo. He has been charged and convicted for multiple antitrust violations and was fined as such. He didn't pay for it, the shareholders did.

In my area massive influx of people willing to work for low wages and willing to live at a very high density has depressed wages. I have not seen a good and compassionate answer other than education on sustainable living.
