So, what up Geeks, you building new computers, buying a new car, doing anything? Has been so dead here lately. I am seriously thinking about win 7 64bit and adding some RAM to my box.

Just for giggles, I ran across an ATI 3d Rage 2x AGP card the other day.

Well, looks like I am heading to the Republic of Texas again for a gun class this weekend.

I hate that. Maybe charge a 10% fee every time they change the specs. Some custom gun places do that.

I've been back to work full time for a couple of weeks for the first time since I had surgery at the end of October. That's been pretty special. Oh, and I also just started dating a new guy. Also special. LOL

Today I get to play with some RC helicopters so I can write a review of them, which is about the most tech-related thing I've done in the last month.

Just recovered an old Toshiba someone pitched out because of some programming errors on the part of Windows. Crappy Celeron Core solo, and only 2 GB RAM, BUT the mobo/chipset will handle a Core 2 Duo and up to 8 GB RAM. Found a qualifying CPU on the cheap at StarMicro.

Still looking for "Thanks" #200. If you post it, they will thank...

Glad you are working again Sgt Tibs, and good luck training the new guy. :-D

Dyamond, tried throwing a shoe at the offending ISP?

Boom, get back to work, aren't you missing a meeting?

TonyH, I am sure they appreciate your help.

Bill, I can print on plexi now, I am thinking about a little mod on the side of my case.

Zack, good stuff! CEO and all! In all seriousness, glad to see you involved in so many positive things! :cool

Hope I did not miss anyone, nice to see you folks are doing something. I fried a PSU on our big printer. It is powered by 220, I assumed the 2 power cables to the two on board computers was stepped down to 110.. Nope. BANG! :-D

Interesting setup, one computer, AMD (I think) system powers up in a DOS or Nix OS, then attempts to power the workstation, which is an Intel board with XP. It boots, but the AMD system says it fails to boot. Fans are on, but nobody is home. Good stuff, we are not in a rush to get it running, and troubleshooting new stuff is always fun.

Looking forward to getting the Vutech running. Thing is so big you could crawl up in it and take a nap on the platen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjJIrpw7bQo

Not entirely sure who is training whom. LOL I think I got a pretty good one this time, but we're only about three weeks in so it's hard to say. But yeah, being back to work is fabulous! And, you know, having an income again doesn't suck, either. :-D

Working on Mimsy 2.0 -- me, not puppy-Mimsy. Down about 14 lbs after about a month of working out rigorously and actually eating right. Amazing what a balanced diet without alcohol, junk food and copious amounts of candy does for the body's overall well-being.... less insomnia, less of me in critical areas (like the waist line), and as an extra bonus, puppy-Mimsy worships me and thinks I am the best thing in the entire world because I take her running a few times a week.

Also building a back-up gaming rig of all the parts that have been removed from the main one through the years to make room for upgrades, reading everything I can get my hands on, and indulging in my make-up addiction.

    Life is good. :dancer

    That's what you think...

I'm working on finishing up University, and job hunting, and playing with spare kit. I just found a socket 939 board with 3GB of DDR RAM and a 1.8GHz processor which I should be using for something but can't decide what. I already have a test setup/remote access box and I use VMs for most stuff now.

    Any suggestions?

Using a SSD is awesome. I was tempted to also buy the Panasonic 840 Pro, but decided on the OCZ Vector 256 GB instead. Using OCZ Vector 128 GB at work with 16 GB ram (Running windows 8) on a Toshiba laptop at work. Wow.

Anyway, I also wear socks with Birks, and have been thinking about wearing ankle socks for bike riding.

http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/road/sport/madone_2_series/madone_2_1/# Kinda what I have. Just older model. Yep, even with clip-less shoes.

What did ankle socks do to make you hate them so? :-D

You know, I don't understand when guys wear knee high socks, sandals & shorts. They are breaking so many fashion rules at once. :-D

Solid State Drive. Replaces your spindle hard drive with a huge flash-based storage drive that has insta-access to anything that is anywhere on it. No moving parts, no noise, no heat generation, no need to defrag, and no need to worry about bumping it.

    They are awesome.

Oh, right, and they have super-speed. :)

Uh, 8 second boot time IS speed. Triple the speed of a typical drive. But, you know all this don't you?!?

  45. BILLMCC66

I have just finished building a PC for a client with a Crucial m4 512GB 2.5-Inch and i am amazed at the speed increase over conventional drives,it loads the OS in under 10 seconds and the data transfer speed is lightning fast even with huge files and the loading of games is just unbelievable.

I am seriously considering installing one of these as my primary OS drive, the only thing stopping me from going and buying one now is the price, the one i have just installed was a 512GB from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004W2JL2A...e=asn&creative=395097&creativeASIN=B004W2JL2A and at almost half price was a good buy but $400 is still a lot just to increase the speed so i may go for a smaller one if i can find the right price.

    I got this:
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5247118&CatId=5298

I am using 62 GB of the 256 with all windows Updates, all my programs and World Of Warcraft. I picked this drive because it came with a cable and software that copied my drive to the SSD in no time AND it had all the hardware to mount it. It was easy, a novice could do it. Spend 30 minutes transferring data, shut down, plug it in, chose SSD as boot and done.

512 GB would be nice but due to pricing the question is how much space are you using REALLY. Music and photos should be somewhere else so 128 GM is more than enough for anyone. Food for thought.

  49. BILLMCC66

    BILLMCC66 Bionic Belgian

My "C drive" is currently 136GB so a 256GB would be more than enough.

    Time to start searching.
