Mine is a 500GB hard drive. Well better get started.

    Thanks

It does not show Drives and Partitions after pressing Enter and the same 5 seconds process. The laptop still goes to the 0xc0000428 screen.

    Thanks

There's another method I and others have used and this is much quicker than DBAN although DBAN is the defacto standard for wiping hard drives.

Download and burn MiniTool Partition Wizard Bootable CD to a CD and boot from it. You'll have to scroll down the page to the CD download area and select Local Download on the right.

Once the CD starts, select "Boot to Partition Wizard" (the top choice).

A screen will come up that should show your hard drive. Select it by clicking on it. Then select Wipe Partition/drive in the left pane. A screen for selecting type of wipe will appear. Leave it at it's default (Fill sectors with Zero (Quick)). Click Apply in the upper left and let MiniTool complete it's task. When it's done, you'll get a message screen stating so.

Once done, eject the CD, and insert your Windows installation DVD. Go under the General menu in the upper left and choose Exit. The computer should reboot to your Windows installation DVD and hopefully, you can progress from there.

Ok I will try this ASAP. And plodr it did not wipe the hard disk, all my files are still there.

    Thanks

How are you able to access the hard drive to determine this? :confused

The Ubuntu CD that sikvik gave me? lol. I am still wiping the partition, the operation is always on the "Operations Pending" section. It's been quite lone. I am wiping the "*:" partition, which is most likely my C drive because of the same capacity I see on My Computer when my laptop was still functional. It is 146.48GB, so idk how long it will take. And is it suppose to be on the "Operations Pending" section? Cause it is always there, and I'm not sure if it is actually wiping it. the File System becomes Unformatted and the Unused is 146.68GB with Use on 0B. I have the following partitions:

*:System (I don't know what this is therefore I leave it alone)
    *: (My C Drive)
    *:DATA (My D Drive)
*:HDDRECOVERY (I don't know what this is therefore I leave it alone)

I will wipe my D Drive to after the C Drive finishes.

    Thanks

You've got multiple partitions on a single 500GB hard drive typical of how manufacturers do their workup at the factory before they sell their computers.

You do have only the one hard drive connected to your computer don't you (the one that came with the laptop and is internal on the machine)? You don't have a second hard drive installed or one connected via USB cable do you?

Since you've already backed up your data, what you want to see in MiniTool when all "pending" operations have completed is one contiguous unformatted 500GB partition or preferably, one contiguous unallocated 500GB space.

When your done wiping the "C drive", select each partition individually and select Delete Partition in the left pane and click Apply. The reason for this is once the "C" drive is wiped, the "System" partition and the "HDD Recovery" partitions will not work on the re-installed Win 7 OS and since you've already backed up your data, the "D" drive (this isn't a second hard drive is it?), for now, isn't needed but can be re-created after you've re-installed your OS, drivers, patches and apps. You could use the Windows version of MiniTool or AOMEI Partition Assistant to do so.

Wait, so which ones do I delete after wiping the C Drive? And no I do not have an external drive connected. No I do not really need the D Drive. The D Drive contains about 400GB and the C Drive contains the other 100GB. So how do I combine the 400GB from the D Drive to C Drive so that all the 500GB will be on the C Drive? So it is suppose to be in the "Operations Pending" Section and it is actually wiping the C Drive? Please give me a full step by step guide, sorry. I do not understand much and I really do not want to bust my laptop. The D Drive is not an external hard drive, it is part of the 500GB as I said above.

    Thanks

And one more thing... Am I suppose to click "Apply" after clicking "Wipe Partition" on *: (C Drive)? Cause I didn't...

    Thanks

Well, maybe it's a good thing you didn't. You really want to end up with one contiguous block of unallocated space.

So, with the MiniTool CD still inserted, select each partition one at a time by clicking on it (it doesn't matter which order). Select Delete Partition and click Apply. The partition will be deleted and MiniTool will bring up a screen saying all of pending operations completed successfully. After the first one completes, select the next one and do the same. Then the next one and the last one.

When you've deleted all the partitions, what you'll see on the right is one contiguous block that will say "Unallocated" next to it. You will not have broken your laptop but you will have a lot of room you can work with on the hard drive. If you want to re-create that "D" drive later, as I said in my previous post, you can use MiniTool or AOMEI to do so. But, partitioning a drive is another subject. We're just trying to get your computer to the point that you can re-install the Operating System, drivers, Security Patches and applications.

I have done the instructions and my Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit is now functional again. Thank you for your help and I will be forever grateful! If there is anything I can do for you I will do it. You have saved me from buying a new laptop. I will follow your next instructions for the drivers and security patches. I have only installed the WLAN Driver, WLAN Indicator Driver, and LAN Driver.

    Thanks

For the drivers, go to the computer manufacturer's support site and enter the serial number of the computer (or if it's a Dell, the Service Tag number) and look for the drivers and downloads for your computer. Download and install them according to the instructions they provide.

As far as updates, if Auto Update is turned on, they will download automatically and may automatically install as well. You can configure that in Control Panel -> Windows Update.

Were you able to Activate Win 7 according to the instructions sikvik linked you to in Post # 36?

Yes I am able to change my Product Key and successfully activated Windows 7. I will download the drivers I need and update my computer. Thank you for all of your endless efforts to help me in this situation. As I said, if there is anything I can do for you, just tell me.

    Thanks

That means all of your device drivers installed successfully. My only concern now is what apps you were using before the problems.

If you were using Microsoft products like Office, do you have installation CDs/DVDs with product keys? What about other software you paid for? Do you have installers and/or registration keys for those? Was there any iTunes music you paid for?

For some things I can point you toward suitable freeware alternatives. Other things like the iTunes music, no one can help you with.
