    Hi,

I'm looking for software that monitors ports applications use(or want to use) on a windows xp system; kind of like a software firewall that tell you "x program wants to access the internet through y ports, allow or deny?".

Programs will typically always use the same port, unless they are configured otherwise.

So, your best bet here IS a firewall!

For more information, you can use the good old DOS command, netstat

    Code:
    netstat -abn
Issuing this command should should show every TCP/UDP connection to your computer, the processes using them, and the remote IP and port numbers that it is using.

ok do listening ports absolutely need to say "Lstening" in the state column or can the remote address be *.* and still count as a listening port?
