I see Vista has "disk stripping" (Raid 0) built into the disk management tool. What it doesn't have, however, is support for Raid 0. My motherboard does not have a raid controller, and I don't plan on buying one. I would much rather have a software setup. Suggestions? Simply looking for redundancy.

    Hi Gimp

You mention the in-built spanning or striping of Raid0 in Vista, ok and yes a form of software raid, but then I guess is a typo mention

Did you mean as you mention reducency Raid1 or Raid5? If so then you need a hardware Raid Controller as its not built into Vista as a software option, as you dont wish to buy a hardware raid controller, only thought on redundency backup is to image your hard drive frequently, this is free http://majorgeeks.com/HDClone_Free_Edition_d3809.html ( free version copies data slower than retail options )

Was a hack for XP Pro to allow Raid1 but not seen one for Vista and doubt the XP hack would work.

Oops- yeah. What I'm looking for is RAID 1. I guess I could just schedule an automatic disk backup daily.
