I have 1g of ram but on startup it stays maxed at 100% for longer than I think it should. It takes about 2 minutes before the desktop even appears. Are these programs that free up ram worth the trouble? I could buy more ram but thought I'd get opinions before grabbing for the plastic. There are several free ones listed on Major Geeks.

Your problem doesn't read like a lack of RAM, it looks like a slow startup where the CPU% is up while Windows tries to load the final stages and boot-time programs.

What do you have running at startup?

Am I reading the file wrong? Do you have a third party firewall and Windows firewall both on?

  7. Blueone

    Blueone Corporal

Nope, just a 3rd party firewall.

The above is registered in your Windows Security Center as being the registered antivirus, this looks like scamware or worse to me, can you do the Read & Run me please?

This is the wrong way to do it, and if you visit the malware forum they will want all the renabled. Use each applications options to disable the auto start on boot, or use crap cleaner's option to delete the registry key that starts it, its the preferred method to just disabling it via msconfig, which is meant for quick trouble shooting if anything.

And any of the three "Big A's" in AV would be preferable to what you have, IMO.

Personally, I'd download and run the free version of Advanced System Care (http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5927).

In addition to being a decent tune-up utility that normally will speed up your PC, it has a startup manager in the "toolbox" section that allows you to delay or disable startup items without using msconfig.

Ok my friend , but it's a good point to disable all and enable one by one showing what is the problem !! :-o

Read #12 folks - I think it may be infected and could require investigating by the Malware team.

I just now had a chance to check back in and all of you are scrambling my brain on not only what to do but what to do first. I think from what I'm reading that every suggestion will help but some may be better than others. BTW, I like Avast AV and have heard several speak well of it. I've tried AVG free and didn't think it was as good. I haven't tried Avira so I can't speak about it. Which one am I missing of the 3 Big A's?

    BTW, which one is #12?

    You named all 3 A's.
