I inadvertently trashed my only video software on my Dell Inspiron with XP. Now I can't play any dvd, even on Windows Media Player.

Is there a freeware program that will put me back in business?

I haven't tried VLC or anything yet. I wanted to find the best before I installed.

VLC can work in portable mode (http://tinyurl.com/j7fbr) You don't have to install anything. Just download a program from the above link and run it.

Look for the portable version of VLC. You won't have to install anything :).

Thanks, I will try the KM player. I did install the VLC program earlier in the week and it was a bust. Awful greenish colors and a one inch bar of corruption down the center of the screen.

Just out of curiosity, is there a good video player that is NOT Korean, or one that doesn't attempt to add a bunch of crap to your pc?

This is what you are looking for in my opinion; I have been using it for years and have never had a bit of trouble with it. VLC is too unstable, and I wouldn't trust 99% of the video players out there to NOT do what you are concerned about.

VLC is, IMO, a very good player
The Video Output setting can cause the problem you're seeing. Try adjusting it here:
