    Hi

I am about to start 'ripping' my vinyls & casette tapes to store on computer / mp3 player instead.
Apart from the connections I need from my turntable (which is connected to an old stack system with a graphic equaliser (I have no idea how to use the GE!) into my computer I am a complete novice on this

I would like to achieve an OK quality - I'm not an audiophile. I have only about 20 LPs & 40 tapes to do in total but not much spare time, so something simple & quick is best

I would like some suggestions for software to (hopefully) automaticaly split tracks, remove unwanted noise; freeware would be great of course!

Any other suggstions as to good help/tutorial sites would also be much appreciated so I can avoid much trial & error

    Many thanks

    Hi,

I don't really do any audio ripping. I did once copy a cassette tape using Audacity which is a free full featured audio software--the results were good considering it was a very old tape that sat in my car for about 3 years. It is not automatic as far as filtering goes, so there would be trial and error involved. You might take a look at it to see if it might be something you could use.

A search like this might give you some useful tips as well. http://www.google.com/#hl=en&sugexp...gc.r_pw.&fp=a91b69f6bd0a7737&biw=1152&bih=733

Perhaps someone can suggest a more automatic solution. :)

I used this for a load of cassettes and some vinyls I had.
    Did the job beautifully.
But after hearing the same songs time and time again and trying to get the sound just right (cos I am pretty fussy) I got bored.

    Good place to look though.
Look for the type that gives you the software too.
    Mine gave me just that.

USB Audio Capture is what you need to look for in your search engines.
I know longer have the software.

    Hi
thanks to All who responded to my query - I will look into all of your suggestions.

As some of the software to purchase has free trial periods, is it possible to rip from vinyl/tape without specific software, save (somehow), and then process through any of the suggested software afterwards (i was hoping I could do it all while just using the software on trial) ?

Thanks again, and for no-one making me feel a numpty
