    Hello,
I have a 1gb memory stick from san disk that I want to use on an old computer that runs under windows 98. I think I need software to make windows 98 able to work with my memory stick.
Am I right? And were can I find that software. I do not understand much of computers please consider this when someone tries to explain it to me.
I am no talking about a memory bank that I want to fit onto the mother board!
It is an old computer made from different components. The back of the computer has slot for a memory stick. It is just that the computer does not have the software to deal with it. My new computer running under xp does have the right software but i can not use it on windows 98.

    greeting rudie

You'll probably have to figure out which model of the SanDisk memory stick you have in order to know which Windows 98 driver you'll need to download and install, but this link should help you find the right driver:

Do you have Windows 98 or Windows 98 SE (second edition)?

As I understand it, USB will not run on W98, only W98SE.
Usually a memory stick comes with a disk with W98SE drivers, or alternatively go the manufacturers website to download the appropriate driver.

I used to use W98SE and USB memory sticks without problems,
once I had installed the driver. Hope this helps. Bazza

Actually, USB does indeed work on Win98; Micro$oft even added LIMITED USB capability to one of the later versions of Win95 (Win95C), and a patch to add some USB functions for Win95OSR2 (IIRC, it was called USBFIX.EXE). I've previously used the original Win98 with USB, though Win98SE DOES handle USB better than the original version of Win98.

Not that it probably matters, but there is NO support for USB in the original version of Win95, and according to M$, there never will be.

Thanks, malware killer for the reply.
Something I read stuck in my brain that USB needed W98SE.
Obviously I was wrong.  Bazza

Check out ebay, your local PC repair stores, for a secondhand copy they are willing to sell, (make sure you get the original MS CD), garage sales, or your local "Trading Post" type newspaper. Bazza

I got a copy with the CD-Key for free from a computer store. Any way, I use a memory stick with my other computer and WIN98SE with the driver downloaded from SanDisk.

Right, except I don't have SE. That seems to be the problem. It must be a very early version of WIN98.
