Some Desktop Icons faded/dim

There didnt seem to be a specific area for this post so i've plonked it here lol

Ok... i have a shared pc, with Xp Pro running. Recently the lady of the house brought to my attention that a few, but not all of her icons were not as bright as they used to be, the most obvious one being Stinger, which is normally bright yellow, but is now dull yellow. There are a couple of others, HJT etc, but by no means are all of the icons effected.

I wondered if it could be they were out of date, ie needed updating, but no, they were fine. I wondered if it was because they had not been used for a while on that area, so clicked them and ran them but they remained dull still.

I searched for an answer via google and came up with ppl claiming it is the monitor, but it obviously isnt that as the icons are all fine in my area, and i've passed them over the area of the screen, just in case.

There is no spyware / virus on the pc, all my anti v / s w applications are up to date, im fuly competent with HJT and there is nothing in there which is of any consern. All of the icons work correctly too. Wondering if it just a glitch somewhere with XP. What ever it is, its specific to the one log in area. As it doesnt appear to be easilly hunted down via google i thought id pick u guys brains. I've dropped it in this catagory as im betting its an xp problem lol

Did you try rebuild icon option in tweak xp from microsoft powertoys?
This might solve it.
Did you use other pc tweakers?
They might have caused it.

 

when you say the icons were fine n' didn't need to be updated....well, i'm not quite sure what you mean. did you try deleting the shortcuts, if they are shortcuts, n' sending a new one to the desktop?

Tweak UI, not the XP PowerToy, has an option that permits you to 'fix' icons though i would strongly urge you to make a restore point before using it....just in case.

Yes it was Tweak UI powertoy.

 

hmmmm....must have my Tweak UI' s mixed up, though i checked 'em both again n' don't see the rebuild icons in the PowerToy

 

Rebuild Icons is an option of Tweak U.I., under the Repair Tab:..


Control Panel => Tweak UI=> Repair=> Rebuild Icons.

However, it doesn't exactly explain why your Smileys are faded. Maybe they have turned "Saddo".

 

Oh yeah. I haven't used Powertoys for a long time, but A.F.A.I.K. it does contain some kind of Rebuild Icon option too.

 

Many Thanks. Yes id deleted the icons and remade them but they came out the same... but... having read your posts i thought why not drop the icons into the Shared desktop folder, and thats made it work!

Im wondering if perhaps it may be the lass whos here... certainly the colour seems to be fading from my hair since i got here... lord knows what she does to the poor 'puter!

If she asks... i was maliciously hacked and did not post this! hehe
