some puter problems i want to clear up

possibly software, possibly hardware, not sure. read below

(fyi all my problems are with freezing)

my computer freezes whenever i burn a DVD using (so far tested) Nero 6.6 (OEM, came bundled with my dvd-rw drive) and CDburnerxp

both transcode(encode?) the video files just fine, but when they are actually burning the DVD, the computer freezes up (seemingly) randomly

ive wasted 4 perfectly fine DVDs so far...its making me MAD!!! :mad

another problem is with transferring files from a external HD to my computer via USB, again, it randomly freezes and locks up the computer when i try to do this

i can transfer small files one at a time (i think, i havent transfered more than 20 small files, but at this rate, it will take forever....)

the HD is a lacie 500GB (design by neil poulton) i dont know if that makes a difference, though, i tried it with my dad's computer (using the firewire connection, not the USB connection) and it worked fine

so i dont know if its the specific connection or some software problem, i just ordered a sata to esata braket so i can test this weekend if the problem persists throughout different connections, and not just the usb connection.

the third problem is freezing during games, specifically spore.

i was playing spore last night for about 3 hours, didnt save, and it froze...i should probably save next time

^^^this problem has lowest priority to be fixed, though, as it could be a problem with the game, hardware, OR software

computer specs are in my sig if you need to know, im running official forceware drivers on my graphics card (NOT cuda ones, they made my games play funny, SORRY majorgeeks folding team, but dont worry as my dads computer is still cranking out at least 2k ppd so its not a TOTAL loss)

and one more thing, im almost absolutely sure these problems arent with windows xp being old/needing reinstallation because all these problems are the reason i repaired, and then eventually did a clean install of windows xp and these problems are STILL here!

can someone please help?

also, my computer freezes when importing music from my zune

so im almost definitely sure its some sort of hardware/software problem with the USB connection...

ill also test it later with a usb memory card reader and a usb flash drive

still wanting any kind of help though!
