So i was going threw add/remove programs found some programs that i don't know do.
    list:
    Fax tools
    viewpoint media player
    Microsoft visual C++ 2005 redistributable
    dell resourceCD
    MSXML 4.0 sp2(kb927978)
    arcsoft photoimpression
MSXML 4.0 sp2 parser and SDK
    capicom
Microsoft compression client pack 1.0 for windows xp
    MSN music assistant
then all these security updates for windows xp
can i remove some of them?or all of them?

Also i want to know if it is safe to delete things from the c:/windows folder in my computer, reason being that i found some old junk in their from old programs and want to delete it.

    More Q's
    1. can i delete things from the prefetch folder?
2.Were can i find a program that can find and delete duplicates of folders and items?

And why when i open Firefox it uses around 79,000k of memory usage but when i open a lot of tabs like 50 it goes up to around 300,000k but when i close all those tabs it stays around 300,000k memory usage.so it gets sluggish and i have to close it and reopen it, isn't it supposed to go down after i close the tabs?
    chris thanks

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Only remove what step 0 of the READ & RUN ME asks you to remove. And that is Viewpoint Media Player. Everything else you listed is not malware and is not a topic for this forum. You are the one the needs to decide what software you use and don't use. Do not uninstall Windows Updates!! That would remove your updates which defeats the purpose of updating to begin with.

We work on malware in this forum. If you delete the wrong thing in your Windows folder or any of its subfolders, you could make your PC non-bootable. It would be a lot more useful if you were more specific on what you were talking about.

Why? They will just come back as they are part of normal system operation. Deleting them can have the effect of making things appear to run slower until everything gets repopulated in the prefetch folder.

    Post in the Software Forum.

Post in the Software Forum! And some one is going to ask you why you need 50 tabs in FireFox. That is quite a bit going overboard with tabs.

Do you have malware problems? Why are you posting in this forum?
