Okay so my computer has caught some sort of malware. I have read through some of the other blogs and while a lot of them are similar I haven't been able to anyone experiencing this. I am currently operating on windows XP. Anti-Virus is by MacAfee, Spyware is by Spybot S&D, and AOL spyware protection. Here is a list of the problems:

When I do a search on Google, MSN, yahoo, ect... all the links it brings up send me to random websites that have nothing to do with the search.

I am also unable to update my Spybot or Macafee protection. I always end up receiving an error that it is unable to connect to the server even though my internet connection is good.

I downloaded HJT as well as a-squared from your website. I noticed something in a-squared the was a little odd. Under the auto-runs menu, startup files, wininit.ini it lists two temporary files that I didn't download. They are the following:

    tempjunk3081.tmp C:\WINDOWS\wt\webdriver.dll
    tempjunk9693.tmp C:\ProgramFiles\NoAdware4\noadwareutils.dll

I never downloaded or installed NoAdware4 which leads me to believe that this is part of the malware. However when I search my program files, even with the view hidden files selected there is no trace of a NoAdware4 file.

Any help you could offer me on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Slash

I should have also added that internet explorer will not allow me to view majorgeeks.com as well. The problem seems to be focusing on the internet explorer broswer because when I log on to aol and use the aol browser I have no problem directly accessing any of the websites I get redirected from in internet explorer. However using search engines in AOL causes the webpage to freeze.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.

I have completed all the items in READ & RUN ME FIRST. Unfortunately, the problem still exists.

I relooked over the read and run post. Somehow I missed an important step in it by not running Combofix. After running Combofix it resloved the problem. Thanks again for your help Tim.
