    G.T. R.I.P February 4, 2007. You will be missed.

Will pray for inspiration, and that some of the dog experts may be able to shed more light. 5 months old... how big is he already?

(sigh) And I've got to stagger off to bed. Way short on sleep last night, and I'll get about 6 hours tonight. At this rate, I'll be dead by Friday. :D

    Tomorrow.... :)

Hope all goes well with the doggie. Depends on how much commitment you want put into it, I guess.

well, ive spent the night thinking, and heres my take on it.
as i see it, the problem is not one of intelligence and/or training. the real problem is one of the propencity for violence in a frightened and confused animal. the fact that he is gonna be a fair size means i cannot take that risk lightly.
if i stop trying to teach this animal basic commands and accept the fact that he is gonna require constant supervision, and that he is not gonna have the freedom my other dog has, then maybe i can teach him not to be frightened.
if this was a retarded child......
although i obviously have no difficulty in using human analogies, i am, never the less, aware that this is 'just a dog'. in the little world i live in, even healthy and 'normal', this dog would have been either a 'yard dog' or a 'hunting dog'. people here do not have large 'house dogs'. they all have those really tiny chiwawas ? , pomeranians, shitzus etc. its funny these great big men pouring there affections on these over grown rats.lol, any way, his life would have consisted of either being chained 24/7 in a yard, or being in a cage 6 days out of 7, and then the risks of hunting wild boar. so....being constanty in my home or on a leash is not bad trade off. not to mention the fact the he should have died already..
However, i did not seek to 'save' this animal. i do not 'seek' to save any thing anymore. this was quite literally placed into my hands, as have many things at one time or another. i knew when i realised how very sick he was that there would be a good chance of long term damage.
i cannot say to my GOD tonight 'nah, too much trouble Lord. you'd better take it back' lol. so i guess this is gonna be an on going story. thanx to all for your input, it gave me a chance to begin to disect the problems. ps, one of the first thing im gonna do is get it 'chopped'. maybe that will help...... maybe not. aloha lauri
