i just reseved a security alert with sygate running, incoming alert saying CDP ports '4 of them' have been scanned from 34.163.248.72..
anyone know if this is a real threat?
and why? if sygate is running?

    Does this ring any bells?

@all, I is was in the bunker, ok, i see now that my pc is still here, no 72 virgins to be claimed here. I well now carry on with self medicating myself, and rid myself of this paranoid dissolution of hackers hiding it the tree tops outside my windows, "was that windows xp, trees," crap! talking to myself again

At least it was only XP trees, instead of *nix or mac trees, where the media and bloggers will shoot down the rumours of any sort of security risk that *nix or Mac has. ;)

Since no-one actually addressed the original issue:

The fact that sygate alerted you indicates that it blocked the scan, so the computer scanning probably got no response from those ports so probably doesn't even know you are there.

More than likely its just a computer infected with some kind of worm looking for a way to propogate.

@matt.chugg ,the thought of worms propagating kinda gives me the creeps, things trying to breed in my pc? yuk!
is this something "worms", programs like my installed ad-aware, spybot find and get rid of? or by having sygate up is that just killing their offspring,, in a sence?
iam just a bit confused, I just installed Sygate a week ago. I use Mozilla, spywarebaster, CCleaner aswell, but do i really need sygate? ? ?
like the other day i cleaned my garage, ya know put things back in order, sweaped leaves out ect. kinda like a defrag. and today i find cockrouches in my radio, i can now play pin pong by moving from fm 104.5 to fm 88. but its not really all that fun.

Just think of a worm as another type of malware, they tend to spread by sending them selves to people, or by scanning ips on the internet and finding vunerablilites then exploiting them to infect another machine and then continuing to hunt for more people to infect from the new machine. If you think about the maths involved in this, these types of infection can grow almost exponentially. Sygate will block this type of malware from infecting your pc. and yes you really do need sygate.

Just a quick story about alerts from sygate. It gave me a chuckle.I got tired of the alerts on a regular basis so started looking at the who is stuff.Discovered that it was the same company most of the time.so I tracked them down and asked who they were and why were they scanning my computer.Never heard from them but the scan attempts stopped almost right away.Coincidence? I don't know but I haven't had an alert in many months.Just thought I would share this for what it's worth.
