Something doesn't seem quite right!

    Hi all,

Some time ago, I got a nasty piece of spyware when my guard was down! Since then I've been extra careful, but the last few days something hasn't seemed quite right...

For example, my external hard drive isn't recognised, things have almost ground to a halt, photoshop has slowed right down (when it was lightening fast) and control panel seems to take ages to open... I've also had a couple of spurious bsod's...

My machine is a hp DV2175ea laptop, Intel core 2 cpu T5500 @ 1.66GHz, 2.0gb DDR2 ram, and an Nvidia GE Force 7200 graphics card...

Is there a product out there that will do a full exhaustive scan and see if there's anything in my pc throwing a spanner in the works?

I use panda 2007 as my antivirus, I regularly run spybot, adaware, ccleaner and counterspy, and none of them are finding anything... (I ran all the above this morning and apart from the usual in ccleaner, nothing has come to light)

    Am I being paranoid?

My apologies if this has been covered; as the cleaning software isn't finding anything I didn't think a full exhaustive malware scan would be necessary; I'll gladly do it if it is needed!

    Thanks in advance...confused

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
