my guy's 3 year old laptop started making da-dum noises. we scratched our heads about it, but when he "chanted" the most recent group of da-dum's to me, it sounded like the start of B's 5th, and I've heard that CANNOT be good. isn't it B's 5th that is the funeral march for a computer? memory's a bit foggy, so I could be wrong.
    thanks for your imput.

What the #@$%*!? You're going to have to be a bit more descriptive here. Saying that your PC is making da-dum sounds and it sounds like Beethoven's 5th is just way too vague. What, exactly, is making the sound? Is it music? Does it come from the speakers? Is it the hard drive? CD drive? Does it happen in Windows? While Windows is loading? Before Windows loads? Is it clicking type sound? A thumping type sound? We need some better details and better info than 'my PC is going da-dum'.

Might be possessed if it's playing Beethoven's 5th. I honestly can't say I've ever heard of that happening.

sorry, just that I've heard that when a newer (post 2000 or so) computer is about to die it plays music. he says it is an audible tone signalling something is happening in windows. I sometimes get a thump when windows doesn't like something I've tried to do, but he isn't doing anything. he's playing windows tetris, or he's playing window's solitaire, or reading his downloaded books off-line. not running a program from a cd, not online, not writing in a word program, just playing some basic games. guess it isn't the dying computer music, but there's something window's is telling us we aren't getting. he says he may have clicked on something that tells him when windows is doing something, but he can't recall what or even if he did. guess we're all puzzled by this one.

Depending on what version of Windows they are running, the following link may apply: Computer Randomly Plays Classical Music. If it does apply, it could be the onboard speaker going. I'm not sure if it would require replacing the motherboard or not.

Only way I knew about it was because someone at my workplace had posted it on a bulletin board with other funny stuff.
