    Hi,

This is yet another computer I have that's been covered up with malware.

I was having trouble getting online at all and I thought I would wait for advice on my other pc with a similar problem to see if it would help me with this one but it looks like it was too different. Anyway, I ran all the readme steps again and I was able to at least get the first online scan done.

I've been able to complete everything except the Panda Scan. It started after several attempts but then the browser just shut down with no explanation.

    Here are my logs...

also, in case it matters, I've noticed the hard driver running a lot for no apparent reason.

    Do you use AOL?
Do you use BroadJump Client Foundation?

Did you purchase SpamSubtract or is it a free trial? If free, uninstall it.
Did you purchase Spyware Doctor 4.0 or is it a free trial? If free, uninstall it.

You need to be careful using P2P applications like below. They often come bundled with malware and even when they don't, much of what can be download from these servers is often infected or incorrectly labled.
    eDonkey2000
    LimeWire PRO 4.10.9
WinMX <---- And this should b uninstalled. As far as I know WinMX is no longer functional.

Now install the current version of Sun Java from:Sun Java Runtime Environment

Then uninstall the below old versions of software:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 3

Please read step 7 of the READ ME again and set MSconfig to Normal Startup.

Now attach new HJT and GetRunKey logs.

    We do use AOL

    uninstalled the following:
    broadjump
    edonkey
    winmx
    spamsubtract
    spyware doctor

    installed new java

    New logs(normal startup)

Is Limewire okay as long as I scan everything before I open it?
If so, what's best to use as a scanner?

In this forum we do not recommend using any P2P applications even if they do not have bundled malware. They are the source of problems for more than 50% of the people coming here for help.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).
Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost
    O2 - BHO: RXResultTracker Class - {59879FA4-4790-461c-A1CC-4EC4DE4CA483} - C:\Program Files\RXToolBar\sfcont.dll (file missing)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlcxMonitor] ALCXMNTR.EXE
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SemanticInsight] C:\Program Files\RXToolBar\Semantic Insight\SemanticInsight.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCClient.exe] "C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Antivirus\PCClient.exe"
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pccguide.exe] "C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Antivirus\pccguide.exe"
    O4 - Global Startup: Updates from HP.lnk = C:\Program Files\Updates from HP\137903\Program\BackWeb-137903.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete
    :
    C:\Program Files\RXToolBar <--- the whole folder
    C:\Program Files\Trend Micro <--- the whole folder

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST)
    .

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Note for IE 7 users: You need to select Internet Options then the Advanced tab and then Reset Internet Explorer Settings!

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

Your log is clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
