    Fellow Geeks,
It started with a nasty virus/ trojan/whatever that would not let me run Super Anti Spyware. Got that working and cleaned the system.
I've also had this little yellow shield saying I had windows updates to install, XP service pack 3. Every time I tried installing it, it would quit and not install and I would be back to square one. so there it sat, a little yellow shield on my tray, always asking to be installed.... I did try to figure out where it came from and it said Stanford university? did'nt think that was good so I tried getting rid of it. I could'nt figure out how.

Now, I tried running diskkeeper lite to defrag, and it will not work, says something failed.
Tried doing a system restore and now it will not boot out of safe mode which I am working in right now.

Is this a virus/malware thing or did I do something wrong?

I have no idea what to do to get this machine up and running.

Its a desktop w/ Athalon XP 1600 processor if that means anything.
I also did have all the stuff the top of the forum suggests to keep things safe when all this happened today.

    Appreciate any help in advance.

    Thanks
    Brian

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
