sony vaio laptop update problem

Hi all! I have a sony vaio VGN-NR120E it seems as though there are a number of critical updates available (from Sony) but I have been unable to download most of them. I contacted Sony support, they said the problem is in my Vaio updater, some sort of registry error I think. I tried scanning/fixing my registry but same thing. The sony website has Vaio downloader updates available but I can't install them due to this problem. The lady from sony said I can't download manually til the problem is fixed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

 

thanks for your response! and no, that's the site I was using. The updates are there- i can download but won't install on my computer. It states "The update(s) for your models is not available at this time. please try again later. (MessageID=0008)."

I was actually trying to get an update for my graphics driver- I'm having problems waking my laptop from sleep and I read that may be the problem. I can't download any updates (including the ones for graphics driver) from the sony site due to the problem with the vaio updater. can I update the graphics driver some other way?

 

Also, there's a lot of "critical" updates available. I read that if I uninstall the Vaio updater, I may not be able to find it because it was originally loaded on the computer?

 

thanks again for your response. I downloaded from the link you provided. I got a message after stating "this program may not have installed correctly". (this always happens now when I download updates from the sony site.) I then had to choose from "try again using recommended settings" and "this program installed correctly" - I chose the latter. Any way to tell if it worked?

 

yup, it shows Version 7.14.10.1295 (from 2007). Thanks! Also, I checked the Vaio update page and, like you said, most of the "critical" updates are from several years ago. hopefully this will solve my problem, I won't continue worrying about the other updates.
