I have a Sony Vaio laptop model PCG-K45 and the outlet in the back where you plug the power cord into seems to be having some issues.

It keeps getting incredibly hot and you have to wiggle it to get it to actually indicate it is charging. Today, I got a spark that emitted from it. It doesn't seem to have affected the computer as it is still functioning correctly without a power cord. I have hardly any power left though and need to repair this issue asap.

Geek Squad told me that this outlet is connected to the motherboard and I'd need to replace it for 800. IS the female power jack on my laptop connected to the motherboard?

I would think that I could replace this myself if I knew exactly what part to buy. Does anyone have an idea on what I should be looking for? Any good online sites to buy a part such as this?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Heck of alot cheaper than what scammer squad quoted you at. installing the parts is not that hard at all. just look up a guide online and take your time and you will be fine. Like i said i replaced the power board in my tohibia and it wasnet that hard

http://computers.search.ebay.com/pcg_Other-Accessories_W0QQfrisZ1QQsacatZ31534 for all your vaio needs. You can pretty much replace just about every part on that computer for how much geeksquad wants.

but im no vaio expert. Look up some disssembly guides online for your lapto to check where the power plug is connected to and all that "i would but i dont have the time to tonight" but im 99% shure its a dieing power board, plug, or battery board.

you can change the parts, just take your time and if you get stuck take a brake and look that guide over really good then try again.

Thanks for the links! I sincerely appreciate it. I have always had issues with the dc jack and the cord not having a tight connection and I've had to straighten a metal prong inside the dc jack more than once. That is why I suspect that the actual dc jack is the culprit.

So far, I've not seen a dc jack specifically for my model number, but I have submitted an inquiry to the ebay seller for this product to see if they know if I can merely purchase a dc jack or if I have to buy the entire motherboard.

The powerboard you gave me a link to.... It does not have a powerjack attached. Am I correct that your thinking is that my dc jack may be functioning but the powerboard could be the real culprit?

im not shure i googled it and found out people were haveing problems with the connectorer and powerboard so thats why i posted that link. best bet would be find a power seller whos selling parts for your laptop then ask him since thats how pretty much everyone gets there parts to fix there laptops.
