Sony Vaio PCV Desktop running Win XP will not statt up properly. Begins to start up then I am given the options to start in safe mode, safe made with command prompt, last known good configuration etc, selecting any one of the options just loops the computer back to the options listed, I can't even get it to start in safe mode to try a system restore, this one has me stumped, I would be grateful for any help or assistance.

I have the recovery disks for this computer, the OS is on C drive and all other stuff on D drive, will only C drive be affected by the recovery or will it reformat the entire hard drive?

    Thank you for reading this.

When you run the recovery, you should get the option to install: only the operating system, a full recovery (recover from start-reformats, then recovers C:\ and D:\ drives).

So, you would choose: only the operating system.

Different systems recover differently, so make sure you have the option of JUST THE OPERATING SYSTEM.

Plus, use at your own risk-as I have never done this.

Have you ruled out the notorious Sony Vaio faulty RAM. Try googling 'sony vaio faulty ram' that was the cause of my cousins boot up fault.
Sorry yours is a desktop the fault was with the laptops. My mistake sorry.

Chances are, the PC is crashing to blue screen error (a.k.a. BSOD) but it's flashing by too quick to see it. Press F8 for the boot options menu and select "Disable automatic restart..." and then boot up. The PC should stop at the BSOD. Write down the error number (they look like this: STOP:0x0000007E) any message (they look like this: IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL) and any file names listed. Then post that info here and we'll do our best. ;)

Hi We have a sony vaio laptop vgn fs515h that is doing the above but we get the code Unmountable -boot-volume

    0x823924a0,0xc0000006,0x00000000,0x00000000
but can not access the advanced startup to disable bios memory options such as caching or shadowing which it told up to do in the blue screen .
