I'm not sure if this is a software, hardware, driver or some other problem but decided to start here first.

I have a Vaio VGN FE770G notebook with MCE 2002. Purchased in 2006 but hardly used. From the first bootup websites with CSS designated background colors showed only white backgrounds when using Firefox or IE, but DID/DO show correct background colors in Opera.

I've searched and searched for info about this problem and even tried asking Dell support which turned out to be a totally useless endeavor.

Can anyone shed some light or make suggestions for a solution?

    TIA

This is for FF (3.6) Click on Tools, then Options, then the Content tab.
Halfway down on the right, click on Colors. Under Text and background select Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of the selections above. (You'll note that the background selection is white).

Thanks anyway, but no, those settings make NO difference. I already tried your suggestion when I first purchased this machine - and all other possible variations under that tab.

As I said, Opera shows backgrounds/colors correctly but neither IE or FF does. It is something other than a simple browser setting but I don't have a clue what it is.

There are other differences besides background colors but that is the most obvious problem. See attached images for all three browsers.

    UPDATE - Problem solved.

Finally found the solution by searching around the net. Somehow the high contrast box was checked under Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Accessibility -> Display -> . UN-checking this fixed both FF and IE. Interesting that Opera wasn't effected.
