Hello all. First let me say I'm glad to have such a forum and such a great meeting of the minds. I'm a fairly experienced individual who now things my laptop hard drive is about to die. I'm unable to run full system scans without a shutdown. I'm running BitDefender, though I had Symantec on there before (yuck!). I've tried running the online BitDefender and Panda's ActiveScan but it will shut the machine off every time. If I let BitDefender run at low priority on an autoscan it will get all the way through but it takes over 24 HOURS! I do find a few things in the email storage, but Bit Defender cannot get them out. I think it has quarantined them. The thing is, these files are in the one drive that I can selectively choose and run a full-speed scan on without a shut down -- this hard drive is partitioned. If I run a full scan on the main drive or the secondary drive where most all of my program files are located it gets about 50% thru and shuts down. I've done all the cleaning and spyware removal tricks. I'm running Windows Defender. So I'm not sure what to think now aside from this drive is about to die. I'm attaching the HiJack this log here for you to look at. I can't see anything particularly troublesome. The ActiveX files have a few things in them that are unknown. I'll try to get rid of that. But they don't indicate dialers, etc. Two other notes: I'm unable to delete a number of files in the Temporary IE folder. I try again and again via Cleaner, and the rest. They won't disappear. I've run the repair tools for the drive on reboot. They move really slow and don't show any damage. None the less, I can't get anything to do a normal priority virus scan on all three partitions of this drive. And I'm not finding anything listed in the malware scanning programs. Please help! I need this computer to be working ASAP. I'll buy the drive today if I can just get confirmation that it's not something on the drive causing this. I need to know if it's likely that this drive is dying. Thanks so much for your help.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Your problems do not sound like malware and your HJT log does not indicate any malware. It sounds more like an issue for the Hardware Forum. Could it be harddisk related....yes. Could also be overheating or other issues related to your motherboard.

Try posting in the Hardware Fourm.
