    Hi

I wonder if anyone here has encountered this problem and maybe resolved it.

I should say straight away that I have tried the multiple solutions posted on the official Skype support forums and elsewhere.

First, the system is a Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit with a full up to date IE9. IE10 & 11 can't be installed on Vista. And it is occurring with latest Skype 7.16.0.102
(Just as an aside, on an old XP 32 bit with IE8 exactly the same problem exists.)

This connection issue has happened out of the blue and doesn't occur on a Win 8.1 64 bit

The solutions suggested elsewhere are to:

    - delete all Skype temp files and app data files - didn't work
    - do a clean new install of Skype - did that and removed every trace of skype *everywhere* first and restarted - didn't work
    - go into Internet Options (for IE of course) and go to 'Advanced' and 'Restore Advanced Settings' - didn't work

If anyone has any alternative suggestions to try and fix this I would be very grateful.

    Many thanks in advance

    Max

NB: For clarity, no other program of any kind fails to connect to the net. It is only Skype

Hey Max, did you have any problem before Skype updated to 7.16.0.102 ? And did this problem start not long after Skype updated ?

    Hi Nick

Yes it happened at Skype update for that newest version on that Vista system (and an old XPSP3 with IE 8).
Since I posted, someone on the skype forums came up with one final idea that DID work, and that was to update Root certificates on both those systems, which I did and it was successful.
There is clearly a problem with Microsoft Update not automatically offering them now on Vista.
But that is what solved it. The failure to connect was caused by blocked SSL content due to out dated root certs.
