I'm really sorry, but... i dont know what this would go under. my neighbor keeps getting this pop up that says her computer might be at risk and when i hit close, it opens up a web page that scans her computer. When i close it out, it asks me if I want to download the new software, i hit no and then asks me where i want to download it to. This happends about every 10 mins... please help me??

 

Yup, Mark is correct. You have a 'new' category of virus called "rogue-ware". Essentially, they are fake antivirus programs that infect your PC, and then promise to remove the infection if you offer up a credit card number. And the more times that goes by, the more overwhelming these rogue programs get, and they tend to invite in more rogue programs. I have seen PCs with over 15 different rogue programs totally dominating the desktop, basically rendering the PC useless. So, follow the links above ASAP and follow the steps exactly. If problems persist, post in the malware forum after running the scans and the pros in that forum will get 'er cleaned up with you....

(I know a guy who actually did give up his credit card number thinking that it would help cure the "virus" he had. A week later he had to cancel the card and file fraud papers with his bank because they had racked up over $1700 in bogus charges. Oh, and the "antivirus" program just got worse. He brought the PC to me with his story and I promptly cleaned it for him. Let this be a lesson to everyone!)
