Sort files by user rating?

MajorGeeks lets us rate the programs it lists for download... so why can't I sort any given list of files (say, the All-in-one programs, for example) by those user ratings? Or is that what the "popular" sort function is? (I thought it refered to the # of times downloaded....)

you can in each of the topics eg. All in One sort the listings via [Sort by: Name | Date | License | OS | Popularity] Popularity as you rightly point out is a listing by how many times they been downloaded.

No option as yet for sort via Ratings... might be a good one to add tho?

Basically because it is a really new system and were waiting for a bit larger sampling. We'll probably add it in a couple weeks though.

I should probably do my bit and rate some of the programs I've downloaded and used!

There are a fair few ratings now... does MA or CP have a total ratings/ average number of ratings per file to look at?

Sort by file rating would certainly be a handy feature :)

Too bad this idea died quietly.

It would be great if you could amke a short comment on the program too, it would help people using it.

That's never going to happen. Ever. No chance. MA has catagorically stated that downloads will never have User Comments of any kind, just because of the trouble that other sides have with completely unfair summaries which people (for whatever reason) believe. IIRC, MA was hesitant in implementing ratings for the same reason.

There are many posts by admins to show that's their stance, but I'm sure [T|J]im could clarify this :)

To bad you are making such unfair assumptions.:(

MajorGeeks is run by two very hard working, devoted men who spend countless hours every single day keeping multiple servers up and running so you can utilize them for free, monitoring thousands of author websites daily for version updates so that the downloads available are always current and they are always looking for & testing new software for possible inclusion in our downloads section. They deal with countless emails daily from people who are having difficulty downloading, asking for tech support or going off on a tirade over something that makes absolutely no sense at all but yet they take the time to deal with it all while still handling everything else. Even when they take so-called 'vacations' they are still working on this site from wherever they might be because without their hard work and long hours, there would be no MajorGeeks.

This is only a very small percentage of what they do. And they DO listen to user input. What you need to take into consideration is that things are handled on a priority basis. When something is suggested it is looked at closely...how will this effect the site in the long term? What is good about this? What is bad about this? etc. To just throw something up without taking the time to look at it closely from all angles is not only poor business sense, and this IS a business, but also would lower the quality and standards of this site which Tim & Jim are not willing to compromise.

So my suggestion to you is, rather than making accusatory assumptions, inquire as to the status of your suggestion.:)
