Sound And Things

OS=WIN 98
DIRECTX=V5
MOBO=ECS P6BX-Me
CHIPSET=INTEL 82440BX
3D ACCELERATOR=3D LABS PERMEDIA 2V
AUDIO ADAPTER=ESS TECH ES1968 MAESTRO-2 SOUND CARD
HARD DRIVE-WD EIDE 80GB-(installed by geeks and me)
i have all the original discs that came with the system when new.
having said all that, these are the issues:

1) no sound
2) no "pci multimedia device" on connection tree which leads to #3
3) cannot reinstall driver(which i think i need do)
4) try to fly simulator and told to install directx 5...it is.
5) joy sitck not sensed (message=not connected..(power lite is on device))
so...any ideas/suggestions guys/gals?
i await any input...

 

yup....clean install from the get-go. i think i may have to uninstall WIN98 and then reinstall to get the system to recognize the sound card....as to the directX problem, i tried installing directX v8 and the bloody machine told me to stick it,er that i needed to install v5mad: ) so what's a guy to do eye'ma gonna go and unplug the beastie,pull the sound card and turn everything back on and see what gives...then i may pull the CMOS battery and redo all of the above...sound like a plan??

handy item that...and was thinking that i may need to do dat(reinstall the mobo chipset) i be off to try...be back later...tata

 

well...making some progress.
uploaded mobo disc again and now i have 7 devices listed under audio/video tree but still no "pci multimedia device"...the good news is that now the joy stick is recognized and works fine...the bad news,still no sound and even though i have instaled directx v5 from simulator disc(commanche gold) or so i thought i still get told i don't need to load it because there is a new one installed well..duh! catch 22 i guess;so i try to fly and am told to load directx v5 . can't find a file on mobo disc for my intel chipset 82440bx;maybe that will solve my sound problem.
gonna uninstall the newer directx and see what happens...ciao.

man...i just got done reading the instructions to update/reinstall sound driver for chipset! i are not that smart, but i gonna try it..wish me luck.

tried to do all dat and still no sound...it's amazing that i can walk and chew gum at the same time! i am resolved to having no sound on this system...may have to take it 'puter doctor or the like. thanks for all the input and suggestions....later.
