Did you install the DVD playback program (Intervideo) in order to load the proper codecs? As for not playing CD's, what program are you trying to play them back with.

OK I couldn't try it because I have no disk. Can I go buy one or download one?

You can buy Intervideo. There are some DVD's that come with a playback program that you can load on your computer on them, you may have to go through you library to find out. I do believe Tango and Cash is one of them.
