Sound Blaster compare - Awe64 v Live

OK - so its been long enough without an upgrade, but forced into hardware upgrade!

Having to upgrade the main pc, the problem is the sound card. The reason I have held onto this pc for so long is the ISA slot for the sound card; its pretty old but my trusty SB 64AWE Gold gives beautiful well balanced playback (perfect for those difficult NIN tracks!!). The problem is it sits in an old style ISA slot.

Our new Pentium 4 does not of course have any ISA slots. But we HAVE to upgrade!

The only other sound card I have is an SB Live PCI card (CT4830)!

The question is - Will this do the business as well as the 64AWE??

 

btw - should add the primary usage for the card is sound output for listening to pre-recorded music; mainly flacs. The biggest challenge has been finding something to play Nine Inch Nails, which stretches any system, and has blown a few pairs of speakers so far on cards before I put in the AWE64, which handles NIN perfectly with no red outs at all, unliek every other card/amp/system we have tried.

 

Ya can't put a Model T transmission in a Mustang 5.0 !

Almost any newer computer or motherboard will have onboard sound that is MORE the adequate.
Most will out perform a ISA Awe64 too !

BTW, I had a AWE64 Gold.
It was great in it's day but it belongs in the retirement home.

 

Get a decent surround sound system !!!
