sound card problem

    When I reinstalled windows xp on this machine i lost my sound card.
    It says that it is working properly but yet it wont work.. Tried reinstalling drivers but did not help... Any ideas will be apperciated :confused

    its almost certainly a driver problem. what soundcard is it?

    not sure. it is built into the motherboard. I have a compaq presario sr5210nx

    I cant find that model listed anywhere but click here to get the drivers for SR5210CF it is probably the same sound card. Select your OS and pick the audio drivers

    Hi and welcome to MG's,

    At what service pack is your XP OS at ?? if you are not at sp3 yet then you will need the UAA driver for the audio to work!!

    please could you also run everest ..... http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html

    Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
    Choose System Summary Only > Next
    Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
    Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

    Add the report in your next post like this.....

    did some looking around on the internet and found how to fix it.... works great now

    Great that you got it working again and thanks for the feedback ;).

    Could you run through the fix that got your issue sorted and sound working again, so that other posters who may have the same issue be able to look it up and solve their issue by following the steps you took, as you know it is not very easy finding a solution by just searching.
