    Welcome to the forum rjd13.

You probably have too many things running on the computer that are bogging it down.

If you could post a screen shot of your task manager/processes we may be able to help trim it down a little.

I didn't see anything obvious in the task manager.

Describe your system, OS, processor, Ram, Video etc.

How are you playing the audio files? Windows Media Player?

What type of files are they .wmp, .wav, mp3?

Are you playing them from the HDD or from a CD or a USB device?

    Hi

What Windows version and Service Pack are you using?

If you boot to Safe Mode (F8 at boot and choose Safe Mode with Networking) does your audio play ok?

Do you have any codec packs installed (such as K-Lite or Shark007s codec pack, likely called Vista Codec Pack) if so uninstall them and see if sound plays ok.

Also check Device Manager for any yellow ! marks.

    Hi

    Cheers for the info.

SP3 would be good to have installed in XP.

Have you tried to play music via Windows Media Player and if so does it sound the same as WinAmp?

As for Codec Packs, have a look in Add/Remove for K-Lite or Shark007 as the publisher or the words Codec as sometimes these codec packs can cause issue or need updating, also is your WinAmp the latest version?

I did post two other questions that could be crucial to diagnosing this issue with audio so an answer would be grand :)
