sound issues

my sound works, but when i listen to anything with a voice it seems all distorted, i have tried every troubleshooting approach and nothing seems to help

any ideas?

 

We'll need a bit more information. If the sound system is part of the motherboard the make and model would be nice, if it is part of a sound card that would be needed. Also, what kind of speakers are you using, and what have you done to try to fix it.

 

I know my computer is a compaq, running windows xp.
I really don't know much.
Umm, I think the audio driver is legacy.
The problem is not the speakers, I have bought and tried probably 5 different set, and then tried head phones, everytime getting the same results

 

Still need some specifics. Run System Information (Click Start>All Programs> Accessories>System Tools>System Info) and post back with the make, model, processor type, and sound device (First 3 will be in the summary, sound device is in components)
Also open device manager and see if there is a question mark ? or exclamation point ! anywhere in the sound, video, game controllers section. (Start>Control Panel>System>click the Hardware tab>Device Manager)
