Sound Problem Please Reply!

Alright, my brother had reinstalled windows XP, and right after he did the sound stopped working. When I go to Sounds and Audio devices in the control panel, everything is greyed out and inaccessible, except the hardware tab and the sounds tab at the top, but the hardware tab says everything is working fine!

When I go to the device manager, I see under Other Devices, Multimedia Audio Controller and USB Device both with a yelllow exclamation mark beside them, they are the only ones in that category. Also, under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller has a yellow exclamation mark beside it as well.

I have checked all over the web for the proper drivers, but I do not know if I had install them or not, I do not know how to install them either, but I did find a site with some of SoundMAX drivers. Soundmax is my sound card built into my Motherboard.

When I try to go on audio conversations on msn, it tells me that "You have no sound card, or it is not properly installed", but I have never touched that motherboard in my life!

I ran aida32 and found that my BIOS is fine, although I have checked everywhere but I do not see it in device manager.

If this is a problem with the drivers and I have to get new ones, could anyone leave a link to a download for the latest one, and if possible tell me how to install it?

I also run dxdiag and do not see a sound tab at all.

I was looking in my c: drive and I found my old login files! Shouldn't they be gone, or is this affecting the problem? Maybe the sound configuration was left in my old files? If they were, how do you get back to them?

I use aida32 and I click on Multimedia, then Windows Audio, nothing on the right column shows up! It is all grey, but when I go down to PCI/PnP Audio, it says this: Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1] PCI

How would I access BIO?

My motherboard is: Intel Billings 2 D845EBG2

My motherboard chipset is: Intel Brookdale i845E

My BIOS Type: AMI 02/26/03

Audio Adapter: Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1]

I would greatly appreciate anyone who replies to this post and gives some info about this problem.

 

You left out Windows XP (what?)

WHat is it in ?

Store bought computer or home built?

Anyway here is the motherboard you asked for. But there is a difference if you bought it IN a computer name brand computer downtown.

If you have the recovery disc's put them in and goto device managment then to the ? marks and goto preferences then update drivers.


Or you can right click on the ones with the ? marks and uninstall or delete them, Then restart your computer and let windows find them if it can. If not then try above methed.


This problem you are having has nothing to do with the bios. Don't flash the bios if you know nothing about it, Unless you want a door stop in the end.

 

do you have any speakers pluged in to the right port. are the drivers for the right sound card.

 

i have the same problem, i have yellow question marks and exclamation marks on my device manager i have a problem with my multimedia audio controller and usb device. can anyone help me please...
