Sound Problem

I think this is a driver question, if not I apologize.

My computer crashed on Friday. I managed to reinstall using a "bootleg" Windows 2000 cd made for me a while back. Because the cd included a drive partion I really didn't lose any files. My problem now is that I do not have any sound on my computer. I've done Windows Update and installed everything from there again. Am I just missing something obvious, or do I need to download something else?

You will want to download the audio drivers for that sound card. Depending on who manufactured the PC you can go to their web site and find the drivers there. Or if you know the manufacturer and model of the card you can go to that web site.

I ran Aida

Under Multimedia it has these icons:

Windows Audio
PCI/PnP Audio
ACM
VCM

?

Do I look for Windows Audio drivers or PCI?

 

Should have told you this first I guess. Look in the back of your comp.

Do you know where to plug in your audio? Well if not you should see 3 color coded plug ins about say 2mm in diameter colors pink, green, and yellow (if it is older you may only have one and it might not be colored but they usually have a pic of a microphone or somtheing stamped into the metal. look closely.) Now if they are coupled with your keyboard, mouse, and other plugs then it is with your motherboard and you will have to click on motheboard in aida, find out what model, then download the driver from the manufac. site.

Now if the plugs are grouped in the area where all the vertical slots are (where pci cards are plugged in to your motherboard there is usually about 4-5 ) then you have an actual sound card and it should be listed, I think, under multimedia in aida and you'll have to find model and then get the drivers from their website. .

Aida says I have
Creative SB PCI128 (Ensoniq ES1371) Sound Card

The computer is about 4 years old so it didn't tell me anything when I looked at the plugs.

I googled the "Creative SB PCI128)
This is the site I've been trying to download stuff from:

The problem is that some of the things I'm downloading will not run, for example I just got this error message:

"Setup was unable to detech the full set of files required for Creative Audio Card Web UPdate program. Please ensure that you have downloaded the complete set of files before running this Setup program. Setup will now exit."

So long story short I don't think I'm making any progress, and am starting to think that this computer may never have sound again
