    Hello,
I am a fairly experienced computer user, and this problem has me bluffed. I am having sound issues, ONLY on the Internet, or Flash related video play backs, also, the Windows XP Welcome sounds at start up do not work. I have un-installed the drivers, re-loaded them, run every diagnostic tool known to mankind, and still no solution. My sound does play things saved to my hard drive ONLY..PLEASE help..Thanks in advance:cry

Have you tried another sound device from your output first i:e like another set of speakers !

    Also try
    Start
--> Settings --> Control Panels --> Sounds and Audio Devices Properties
and make sure the mute button is unchecked
Click on the "Audio" tab along the top to get to the audio application output settings
Make sure that the device selected is correct (it's probably the name of your sound card, not your speakers ) then click on the "Volume..." button:
Finally, the master Volume Control on the left side is what's most likely affecting the playback of audio in Windows Media Player or what ever player you use Make sure that's not muted then move the slider up or down just a bit.
If you hear the system beep or other audio feedback, you're good to go and Windows Media Player should work great. If you don't, go back and check the various volume controls to ensure nothing's muted and all the volumes are at an audible level.

Hope this gets you going good luck !

    RJ ! :)

    Hi, This is Bodie,

I finally remembered my old Login in Password. My Laptop is a Toshiba Satellite, it was bought in 2006,and has Realtek HD Audio. I have unistalled drivers, reloaded them, everything I could think of. I hear no Windows startup sounds, or Flash video sounds will NOT play. But, if something is saved to my Hard Drive, it DOES play. Is Realtek a motherboard card? How would I replace this? Thanks in advance...

    Bodie:)

Sound in laptops is on a chip on the motherboard. The only replacement is a new motherboard which probably is not cost effective for a 3 -4 year old laptop.

Since you do hear some sounds, this does not indicate a problem with the sound chip. I'd be more concerned if you heard no sounds.

Click on Sound in the Control Panel and make sure that things in Windows are associated with sounds.
