Sound problems

Hello all

I am posting this on behalf of my brother. He is experincing some rather bizzar sound problems.

The problem happens ramdomly when he is playing online, and then all of a sudden his sounds stops playing. Even when he goes back to desktop, the sound is muted in windows, even though there is no mute being displayed. And the only way to resolve the problem is restarting the PC completley. Made sure there was no loose connection's, I checked in device manager, but no problem there, looked in Sound and audio devices, nothing out of place there either. Ran Dxdiag and results found no problems. And just found out it doesent happen when he is playing online. Also happens when he is simply playing an audio CD. I have a nastey feeling its a virus. I ran VGA while makeing sure it has the latest update, nothing found, downloaded stinger.exe and ran that, nothing found, even ran an online scan called House Call by PC-Cillin, and that found nothing.

hi kerblam you might find this link of some help try finding out what sound card it is by looking in your device manager.
