Soundcard problem?

So, I don't know the exact day, but I know it was within the last week. The sound started being weird.

I didn't really notice it until last night though. My Ventrillo was playing fine, but the voice notification wasn't working (when changing channels or whatnot). I wrote that off as a weird vent thing.

Then I went to play some music and I get an error that my sound device either doesn't exist, was never installed, or is being used by another device.

I haven't installed anything new recently. I scan for viruses every day and use AdAware every week or so.

Going into sound device properties, it says there is "No Audio Device" even though I never uninstalled anything.

Any advice? I don't have the software for the sound device as I am using the default one it came with. (SigmaTel Audio)

Is it onboard or a stand alone card?

    it's a stand-alone.

But somehow... the sound started working again today. :-/

    Very bizarre.

    Thanks anyway
