    Please help,
I have an HP Pavillion zv 5000 laptop with Windows XP home edition with a service #ZV5240us and pentium4. When I go to the Control Panel and open it, it shows "No Audio Device" yet when I go to the Hardware file and highlight SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio it shows in the device status "Working Properly".
I have no sound. I have downloaded a few free downloads, twice yesterday when it was in it's docking station at my office I had sound until I had to restart then the sound went away. I have tried a few downloads today with no success. I do not know where the CD that may have come with my laptop could be. I am about ready to scream. Can anyone steer me in the right direction?
    THANKS!!:confused

These drivers are from HP. The first is the audio, second is for the Nvida chipset. Download them, uninstall the audio ones that you have (don't uninstall this one yet - SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio), install these, and shut down and then restart your PC. Let me know the result.

This should be the newest SoundMax Driver. If the above doesn't work uninstall the Soundmax driver and install this one. (Click download on the page the link brings you to)Make sure to shut dawn, then restart.

proshop, in answer to your email about the drivers installing, working, then quitting again after a re-start.
This may or may not be the prob but we need to be sure.
    1) Double click on your volume icon and make sure volumes are set right.

    2) Goto Start>Run and then type in services.msc
Scroll down to Windows Audio and open it by double clicking on it.
Make sure the box is checked.

If this doesn't work try removing your sound card and then making sure it is firmly seated again.

    YEA!!
Just got your message and went to the start/run/windows audio - well, there was a start/stopped area at the bottom of this window and all had been stopped. I clicked start and it looks as if it has moved to a point where it start when ever the computer is started.
    Thanks SOOOOO Much!!

Can you point me in one more direction? I had a registry scan and it shoed upwards of 1000 errors. What is the best cleanup?

    One other thing to try is this;
Click Start, Control Panel, Sounds and Multimedia or Sound and Audio Devices.
Click the "Audio" tab. Click the "Advanced" button.
Click the "Performance" tab and change the Hardware Acceleration slider bar to "none".
    Restart your computer.
    • If this doesn't work try removing your sound card and then making sure it is firmly seated again.

Just for future reference, I have not opened up my laptop to find the sound card. I have had one of the home desk tops opened numerous times, how hard is it to open and find when things are this compact?

I use a CCeaner for everyday file and reg cleaning..... http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Slim_No_Yahoo_Toolbar_English_d4191.html

A powerful reg cleaner I also use is RegSeeker......

You must be very careful though. Make a system restore point before using it.
Before running, make sure "Backup Before Deletion" is checked. Click "Clean the Registry", check all boxes (including "Invalid Services"), then click "OK". Let it run, then, click the check mark, Click ONLY "Select All Green" Then click "Action" and then "Delete Selected Items" Go back to the check mark and then click ONLY "Select Invalid Service" and then Delete. You should be asked to Backup each time, say yes.
Never click on the "Select RED ITEMS!!!.
That should get your reg in shape.
Post again to let me know what is going on.

On getting to your soundcard., you may want to post another thread, if you have to get to it. (Never tried to open a laptop)
If the sound is working good now, it's best to leave it alone.
