I want to upgrade the rAM in my HP Pavillion 6400f from 3g which I now have to 8g. I want to take out what's in now and just add 4 sticks of 2gig each. It's 240pin PC2-5300. Any ideas on the best places and prices? Thanks, Tony:cool

I'd check Newegg.com - especially the user reviews regarding compatibility.

On most PCs, you should be able to use DDR2 6400 (800MHz) sticks; however if keeping any of your existing memory you should stick with 5300.

Be sure the place you buy it from has a decent return or exchange policy if the particular memory you buy doesn't play nice with your PC. If - after adding the new memory - you have boot issues or BSODs defective or incompatible memory is almost always the culprit.

Avoid higher end "gaming" memory. My experience it's more likely to have issues when used in store-bought PCs. Here are a few of the better deals on Newegg as of tonight (based on price and customer rating):

    Hope this helps. :)

Thanks for the info. I know how to do the upgrade! I was only looking for some better known prices retail. The malls in Savannah have huge prices. But thanks for the reply.

Not sure who you were responding to, but if me, that link shows much more than just how to do the upgrade.

Brick and mortor stores, especially in malls, are typically very expensive. I agree with gman, check Newegg and they have a fairly decent Memory Configurator System Tool to help ensure you pick compatible RAM.

I agree with Digerati. I'll just add a note to read the user reviews on the brands of memory that match the specs you need. Some brands or models of memory may not work with certain boards or PCs; the user reviews may help you spot compatibility issues prior to purchasing.
