I'm trying to remove SpyFalcon from my computer and I printed off the steps to do this but have a few problems. The first is I can't view hidden files. I right click start, then select explore, and the hour glass appears and that's it. I can't procede any further. Also I downloaded the smitRem.exe and when I double click the only option I get is Run (I don't have the option to extract). I also can't add/remove programs because no programs show up in my add/remove screen. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Are you trying to follow the below procedure?

    SpyFalcon Removal Procedure

Did you do the registry patch yet?

I don't see the registry patch in the directions. I will do anything to get this off my computer. Please advise on the patch.

Are you looking at the link I just gave you? It is right below the link for viewing hidden files.

Okay no matter whether you completed the SpyFalcon removal steps or not just do the below so I can get a quick view of your system.

Please run the steps in the below link and attach the runkeys.txt log.

    Using GetRunKey

You may need to run our full cleaning procedures in the READ & RUN ME sticky thread because it sounds like you have more than SpyFalcon.

The first step say." Make sure you follow the steps in this link: How to view hidden files, system files& folders. I clicked on this link and followed the directions for Windows XP and once I select explore I can't go any further. Am I missing a step before this?

I just wanted to see how far you went. You did say you downloaded smitrem.exe and were trying to extract it. The registry patch is before that. So did you do the registry patch or not. If not, why were you try to do smitrem.exe?

Just do what I requested in message number 5.

Here is the file C:\runkeys.txt. I'm sorry for taking so long but my computer is slow. I did copy the contents aof the REGEDIT4 and I did download the smitRem.exe, but since I can't view hidden files I stopped. I appreciate your patience.

Can you tell me what the below is?

    "ePASSExpress"="C:\\Program Files\\ePASSExpress\\ePASSExpress.exe"

Also are you logged into an account that has administrator priviledges?

E-pass is a program that allows me to send my files directly to lenders. I don't use it that often and will get rid of it if needed. As far as being logged into an account that has admin priviledges I don't know. The computer I'm is my personal computer. The weird thing that happened today when this SpyFalcon got on my computer is my wallpaper changed on my desktop.

That's all part of SpyFalcon! But the difficult with enabling viewing of hidden files is not related.

Did you Add the registry patch as instructed? If not, please do so.

Try running through the whole procedure anyway. When you run SmitRem, just click the Start button then continue with the other instructions.

I'm a little confused with adding the registry patch. I did copy and save the REGEDIT4 stuff. Should I restart in safe mode and go to add/remove and uninstall SpyFalcon and then double click the fixfalcon.reg and follow the rest of the directions? Thanks

Sorry! Just continue with the steps as written and run the registry patch where it indicates when you are in safe mode.

I rebooted in safe mode and went to add and remove programs and no programs came up. Should I proceed with the other steps?

Yes! Continue all the way thru! Are you in safe mode right now? You should not interrupt the steps. They must be run from beginning to end and as the directions say:
If you connected to the internet or open any browsers, you may have to start over again.

I will start over again, but I don't understand how this will help when I can't view hidden files and I can't add or remove programs. Do you still want me to try the rest of the steps?

We have other methods we cna use later if necessary to remove hidden files. Just complete the steps you have already started and lets see what we find.

Why happens when you try to enable viewing of hidden & system files anyway . Is it just that you can not bring up explorer to get started?

I right click on start, then I select explore and the next screen comes up with a few programs listed (SpyFalcon being one of them) and then the hourglass appears and I can't do anything else.

Download and install the below (much better than Explorer anyway) use it to look for and delete all file mentioned:

    ExplorerXP

Sorry I had to leave for awhile. I'm not familiar with this program. How do I use it to find and delete files. What files should I look for.

It works very much like Windows Explorer and many other Windows programs. Just install it and take a look at it. It is rather easy to use and navigate around through all the folders on your system.

You are looking for the files given to you in the SpyFalcon removal procedure.

You are using ExplorerXP instead of the below line from the procedure.
