I'm using Windows XP Home Edition. My computer recently (automatically) downloaded the new Windows Service Pack 2.0. It was about a 20min download and a 10min installation. It then asked if I wanted to reboot now or reboot later like always, and I clicked reboot now. Whle my computer was rebooting, these 3 messages came up with 5 different options.

We apologize for the inconvenience, but windows did not successfully start. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectidly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files or folders choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert most recent settings.

If this problem is due to a computer failure, power outage blahblahblah or you dont know what caused this, please choose Start Windows Normaly.

    Safe Mode

    Safe Mode with Networking

    Safe Mode with Prompting

    Last Known Good Configuration

    Start Windows Normaly

Please scroll up and choose the required option: 20 seconds...

At first I chose Last Known Good Configuration cause I didn't understand the problem in the first place and thought that to be best choice. but then when it got to the Windows XP Loading screen (with the blue bars flying below) it froze right there. So I rebooted again and tried to get into Safe Mode and remove the patch. It then froze again and this is where I seem to be stuck. Any suggestions?

    Thank you,
    Jeff

Probably should have tried Start Windows Normally first then the Last Known Good Configuration next. (happens to me sometimes for no reason)

Sound like XP is now in Limbo between upgrades.

Stick the XP cd in & boot up. Follow the screens to the repair option & see how that goes.

I stuck the Win XP cd in and no options or pop-ups came up but the same error message and then freeze. I have Win XP and Win 2000 on my computer which I am using now to see if was just XP or something internal with my computer and seems to be the XP pack. From this point I'm not sure what to do If I want to just clean my hard-drive and reinstall XP or what.

    Open to all suggestions.

    Thank you,
    Jeff

Have you got the cd rom to boot first in the bios?

If not do that then boot up with xp inserted.

If you have then................................I got no clue.
