Sp2 got me good...

Just installed SP2 on my XP Pro box and took me half an hour just to get it to boot into safe mode. Tried uninstalling it and Remote procedure call service crashed... now watching it try to boot up again with "last known good config", but no HD activity, just wallpaper and mouse cursor...

I really should have known better... it's going to mean complete re-install, I can tell.

 

RPC just crashed again after finally getting a boot.

 

You sure about that?

It can be uninstalled from Recovery Console.

 

HAHAHA.. and now (get this) drag and drop NOR copy will work, so I can't back things up over to my server. I'm forced to watch them slowly go bye bye...

From rcon, run these three lines:

cd $ntservicepackuninstall$\spuninst ENTER

batch spuninst.txt ENTER

exit ENTER

 

sorry for being dim, but do you mean the recovery option you get when doing a fresh install or windows system restore?

 

Actually, with the symptoms I'm seeing now, uninstalling the SP won't save it. There are too many bugs to clean up... ones that I've never seen before.

 

rcon(Recovery Console)is when you boot off of the CD, and choose R at the first screen after the files have loaded into ram.

Won't work as my SATA driver doesn't load until after that point... at least I'm assuming "didn't find any drives" means...

 

Load it off of a floppy by pressing F6 when prompted.

 

hehe.. I don't have a floppy drive in that box. Strangely , I could never get one to work... and tried EVERYTHING.

No biggie... time for a fresh install. Just had better things to do tonight.

 

Is it just my cynical nature or is the even number service pack curse back?
