ok I finally pumped myself up to installing SP2 on my computer I had went to windows update and waited a few minutes for them to check everything and then I got to the point where I was ready to update. So I clicked to link, grabbed my cup of coffee, sat there and got ready to reboot when it was done. 25% of the way it stopped producing a error saying: "Failed to update the database" besides slinging a whole slew of cuss words at the PC it also cancelled the update for me. I made a earlier post in the malware forum and was directed to a microsoft KB page with instructions to set permissions in the registry so the necessary files can be updated. However I made my backup using the export feature before i touched anything and haven't made any changes so I'm cool in that department however I looked at the file it specified, setupapi.log, and I can't make any sense of this thing it's organization is atrocious. So my question was if anybody could help me make sense of the file. If you need it I'll attach it to this post.

First, create a restore point just in case. Then, using the link that Chaslang provided for you, scroll down to the part I listed in the quote box and run the fixdb.bat. Also, before installing SP2 be sure to disable your anti-virus. Good Luck.

ok, I got SP2 installed and with no problems I just grabbed the latest high priority installs directly from micosoft via windows update so i'm caught up. I'm sure I'll have a few shocks when I go to run my various programs but I'll deal with those later. One question though, I see at microsoft that they have a download for Internet Explorer 7 Release Candidate 1 for Service Pack 2. Now judging from the title would it be correct to assume this is a early post beta version and it's not entirly complete yet? Because I was juggling as to wheter or not I should get it since I use IE alot everyday.

Personally I would wait awhile and see if your PC is stable after the update to SP2, before concidering installing betas, or wait until it gets to at least RC2 or RC3.

Ok will do, so far i haven't had any troubles with stability or speed nor program compatibility. In fact it seems to have fixed the problems I was having with IE CTD all the time, it's kinda nice and some of the security features I kinda like it also seems to be more aware of malware.
