Yep. They're out for the holiday season. Just keep reporting.

Just a reminder to everyone to Report, don't respond, as it makes extra work since we have to delete your post also.

If you see any posts with lots of pretty graphics showing you how to Convert files for your iPod, etc., it's spam, so report that as well.

Thanks to everyone for keeping an eye out and letting us know.

Yeah, I actually answered one the other day here in the Lounge - thought it was a legitimate grammar question, and I'm a stickler for grammar, sooo...

Sometimes I think my fingers have brains of their own - they just start typing away, with not a care in the world...

    Yada, yada, yada...:-o

I report as many as i can spot in the morning (European time) because we are up before our American colleagues so that when they come online they have the reports.

Later in the day not so many get through.

Nah, the best spam is shallow fried [in lard] covered with cheese, then put between two pieces of bread and into the toastie maker :)

Don't sweat it man, just report them in the not so obvious threads, meaning the red triangle, they'll easily catch the rest of the idiots just by the thread title, like this afternoon when the credit card # sellers posted en masse, seems like there's a feud going on between them or a new ploy. :confused

Just don't do like one mod did last night and vent, posted something like 'die you bastard' but most likely to a 'bot!:-D Then they cleaned up after themselves but it's a complete waste of time and energy but I know the frustration it can bring on as I ban ~20 a day, not here of course.;)

Then they get a duplicate, at a minimum, since I saw and reported that one too! LOL

Most of the spam I see is for various highly suspect-looking websites that claim to sell cheap shoes and brand-name purses. That creeps me out... I didn't know spam used targeted advertising! :eek

I was grateful I learned how to report that today from Dr.Moriarity. So while I haven't any tech knowledge to share, I can do a bit more than take up space!

Bwahahahahaha!:p:-D Well, if you take it personally Mimsy, you probably notice them more.;) It doesn't affect me in the least, as far as targeting goes. Spam is spam 'And Will Be Exterminated!':-D

Hell, yeah - not only do they watch blogs, forums and any social NWing site to spam according to trends, but there are other disturbing examples.

For instance: do a google for John Deere tractors for a couple of days, and then start looking through your spam folder(s) - guaranteed there will be John Deere ads popping up before you know it.

That is scary! What I've learned in the last day is to appreciate the work of the moderators & administrators. They're keeping things clean and spending time taking out the garbage. I thank you for your service now!:wave

Glad you figured out the report post feature.:) You can use that for any questionable post (ie. someone being abusive, posts against forum rules, spam, etc.). Just fill in the description for why you are reporting it.

You should also take a look at this thread as far as Spam: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=204243

thanks again everyone, for reporting the spam

Hey Laura, it's called self preservation.;) These 'bots are tough, we had one this morning and got 64 spams before anyone got to them. That's a record for us from one source or many. Thankfully, I didn't have to deal with it this time.:)

Sounds like we all got the same bots last night, augie. They hit pretty hard here too. I deleted about 60 this morning also. Luckily they all got caught in the filter MA, CP, Philip, et al have set up.
