Windows 10 desktop. Headphones work perfectly but I have tried 3 different speakers, all of which work on another computer but not on this one. I have checked Device Manager, says they are all working correctly. Checked sound settings, they again show everything working correctly. Uninstalled each set and reinstalled but still no joy. Is there any magic tip I should know about? Rather annoying.

    HI ,
Thanks for trying but sadly this did not work. I followed all the directions, tried to get windows to find the problem but no luck. When I open the sound properties there are four display audio devices listed, one ASUS V247 ( motherboard ?), two Digital Audio (S/PDIF), one headphones and one Speakers (high definition audio device). I don't know what these all are. What to do now. ?

If it looks some thing like this below. This is windows 7 not 10 FYI

You will have to set your speakers to default.

Question do you have a AMD setup.???

If you do then most likely it has been set with your computer screen speakers and not your normal speakers.

I have an AMD setup...The problem i have is when i setup a new installation of my video driver. It will automatically go to my screen. In which case my computer screen does not have speakers. So i have to disable this to void that option. But i can still use my regular speakers be cause they set to default when i disable the computer screen option.

EditL: Reason why mine does this is because i use a laptop and HDMI connections.MY secondary screen is connected through the HDMI connection.

    Hi,
I have fixed the problem, I worked out that it was a driver problem.
Downloaded the driver from Realtek and sound is back
I am thinking it is a problem caused by Windows updates because coincidentally this morning my son's computer had lost sound but was working yesterday. Checking Device manager he has the exact same thing, ie
the Sound, Video and Game controllers just showed as High Definition Audio and the driver was from Microsoft. He followed my example and the sound is now okay and Device Manager is now Showing Realtek High Definition Audio and the Realtek driver.
It is rather strange that I was able to hear through earphones but the next time I tried it, Nothing. ???
All good now , who can work out the mysteries of technologies? Not me!!
