soundcard is realtek ac97. periodic squeaking and squaking occurs only when using msn video call. when playing sound files, it's flawless. using philips mm5321 80 watt speakers. i updated the realtek drivers today, no change. i thought speaker power supply was too close to cpu. moved it, no chnage. anyone have any ideas on why this would be occurring? any help would be greatly appreciated. Just a guess, but maybe your mic is causing the feedback. Move the mic wires or re-route them away from the speakers and speaker wires. See if that helps.

thanks to Kestrel13! and musksnipe for your suggestions. i'm oncall 24/7 in medical field so i haven't had a chance to try the things you mentioned but will as soon as i can get some downtime from work. i appreciate your quick responses.
